Together, we can transform dementia care and ensure fair access for all
The work of health economists extends beyond academic exercises; it can positively impact society by uncovering disparities and guiding better healthcare decisions.
At OHE, we have the privilege of conducting research that informs discussion in many challenging areas of healthcare policy. This month is no exception, as our latest report commissioned by Alzheimer’s Society, attests.
Dementia does not impact everyone equally, and our research reveals a staggering 110 disparities affecting those living with dementia and their carers. These inequalities span from diagnosis accessibility to financial burdens and participation in clinical trials.
Fiona Carragher, Chief Policy and Research Officer at Alzheimer’s Society, eloquently highlights the serious unfairness at play. The findings indicate how socio-economic status, geography, age, culture, and ethnicity can shape one's experience with dementia.
This report not only sheds light on these critical issues but also reveals a worrying lack of evidence and data about inequalities and their impact. To help address this, the Alzheimer’s Society has put out a call for a collective effort to bridge these gaps and offered funding for further research.
